Živilė Diawara invites everyone to become co-authors of a unique feature-length film: everyone can contribute to its creation

In anticipation of the 700th anniversary of Vilnius, residents, tourists and all lovers of the capital are invited to become co-creators of the film Once Upon a Time in Vilnius. This will be the first time in the country’s history that a film will have so many co-authors, as anyone can contribute to the plot. According to the team of developers of the Once in Vilnius mobile app at public institution Menų fabrikas, this app will not only help to capture Vilnius in a unique way but will also serve as a great guide to many unseen places, spaces, tastes and activities in the capital. The free Once in Vilnius app, developed jointly by a Lithuanian-Spanish team, can be downloaded to your smartphone from Google Play and the App Store. A film-chronicle of 700 images of Vilnius

The new Once in Vilnius app allows each user to creatively showcase a distinctive Vilnius, vibrating with youthful energy, and thus shape the identity of the capital. After downloading the app, users can upload videos and photos of up to 2 minutes in length, capturing moments, stories, memories, or never-before-seen images of Vilnius. Once uploaded, the material can be viewed many times by the app users who can shared their favourite images with friends on social networks.

Green, tasty, active, nocturnal, romantic, creative, sporty, comical, beautiful, fashionable, smart, festive, diligent – all facets of Vilnius will be captured and seen in the app. At the end of next year, a team of professional directors will select 700 images from all the material submitted during the project to create the feature-film Once Upon a Time in Vilnius.

“We believe that the Once in Vilnius app will become part of our everyday life and will help to build a stronger local community that is willing to share beautiful and useful moments of life in Vilnius. What are we doing in the capital, where are the undiscovered streets of Vilnius, where are the tastiest lunches, which is the nicest hotel interior, what is worth visiting, which is the best excursion, which are the best nightlife spots to visit? Let’s share our vision of Vilnius, so that not only local people, but also the whole world can find it more appealing and discover the incredible charm of our capital city, because we really do have a lot to be proud of,” says Živilė Diawara, the idea’s author.

According to Ž. Diawara, the exceptional archive of impressions and video stories, the original film chronicle of the participants and the unique feature-film will definitely remain relevant for Vilnius as we are entering the new century and will become a valuable legacy for future generations.

The film is scheduled to premiere at the end of next year. All filmmakers selected to participate in the final Once Upon a Time in Vilnius film will receive an invitation to the official premiere and awards ceremony. The film will be screened in cinemas, festivals and later a publicly accessible online platform.
